Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma were conferred with the Arjuna Award by Vijay Goel, India’s Sports Minister, in New Delhi on Friday (September 16).
They were to receive the awards from the president of the country on August 29, but were in Lauderhill, Florida for the two-match Twenty20 International series against West Indies at the time. Rahane received the award for performances in 2016, and Rohit for his showing in 2015.
Both players took to Twitter thereafter. Rohit said he was humbled by the honour and said he would continue “striving to achieve heights”. Rahane said he was honoured to have received the accolade as well, and both players made it a point to thank the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for recommending their names for the award.
