Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Vijay Goel will attend a function at the Calicut University near here tomorrow to honour the outstanding sports persons of the state, a University official said today.
The minister will interact with the athletes and inspect the sports facilities at the University during his visit, Sakeer Hussain, Director of Physical Education, said.
Former national athletic champion P T Usha will deliver a special address at the function which will be presided over by the University Vice-Chancellor, Dr K Mohammed Basheer.
Sports Authority of India(SAI), Regional Director, Dr G Kishore will also be present on the occasion.
“We will bring to the notice of the Central Minister, for the speedy release of funds required for a Rs 13 crore project, which includes a synthetic hockey turf, swimming and diving pool and synthetic tracks at the University sports complex,” Mr Sakeer Hussain said.
Besides, the students of the University, and those from about 450 affiliated colleges are utilising the facilities, he added.
