India are looking at quite a sporting extravaganza with the Kabaddi World Cup upon us. Hopefully it will set the pulses racing. India are one country that has done their best to promote kabaddi. We are hoping that the Kabaddi World Cup will be like a cherry on the cake. India gets ready to host the eighth edition of Kabaddi World Cup. The sport has been immensely popular here in India. The event, which kick-starts from October 7, will be organised by International Kabaddi Federation (IKF). Total of 12 teams will take part in the tournament. The teams have been divided into two groups of six teams each. India, Bangladesh, South Korea, Australia, England and Argentina are in Group A while Iran, Thailand, Japan, USA, Poland and Kenya are placed in Group B. In the opening match on October 7 hosts and defending champions India take on South Korea. India start the Kabaddi World Cup 2016 as hot favourites.

The Kabaddi World Cup will be played in a standard style and the tournament will have a round-robin format. Top two teams from each group will advance to semifinals. The final will be played on October 22. All the matches will be held at The Arena by TransStadia in Ahmadabad, Gujarat. The venue is the newly developed state-of-the-art multi-purpose stadium.

Last week, September 14, the tournament schedule and the logo was unveiled by Honble Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Vijay Goel. The logo is said to be derived from the natural heritage of Gujarat, the Asiatic Lion, which symbolises the ferocity of a Kabaddi defender and the agility of a raider. Also Read- 2016 Kabaddi World Cup: Participating nations, stats and other details

Just like Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Star Sports has the official broadcast rights and will air the Kabaddi World Cup 2016 matches live. Star Sport will also provide free streaming of Kabaddi World Cup 2016 on its official website and Hot Star App. The matches will mostly start at 8 PM as per Indian Standard Time (IST), some games will start at 7 PM as well.
