Brazil Wins as BRICS U – 17 Football Tournament Concludes

The BRICS U-17 Football Tournament came to an end today amongst great fanfare at Goa. The last day of the tournament saw a keenly contested match between Russia and China with Russia prevailing by two goals to one.
The second match of the day, the finals of the tournament was contested by Brazil and South Africa. Brazil has lifted the 1st BRICS U-17 Football Tournament 2016 held at Goa. In the Finals they defeated South Africa 5-1.Brazil’s Paulo Henrique Samapaio Filho scored the very first goal of the match in 24th Minute. Followed by Vinicius de Oliveira in the 34th minute, Victor de Oliveira scored a brace in the 40th & 61st minute to give Brazil an upper hand.

South Africa’s S’miso Bophela scored the only goal for his team. The icing on Brazil’s cake was set by Alan de Souza Guimaraes in the 6 minutes after the second half resulting the score in favor of Brazil as 5-1. Earlier in the match for the 3 rd place between Russia and China, Russia defeated China 2-1.

Ten-day BRICS tournament , a first of its kind, will be a harbinger for further exchanges in other sports. The enthusiasm evoked by the scintillating display of skills will be an inspiration for the youth of the country and spur India’s impetus towards ‘Khelo India’ and ‘Mission 11 Million’.

It was witnessed by a large crowd of spectators and dignitaries. Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar was the Chief Guest, the Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha and Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel were the guests of honour.Brazil, in a spectacular display of dexterity dominated the match from the very beginning, winning the coveted BRICS U-17 Football trophy by five goals to one. Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar presented the winning team with the Gold medals and the coveted BRICS U-17 Football Trophy.

The Silver and the Bronze medals were presented to South Africa and Russia respectively by Union Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Vijay Goel, and Goa Governor Mridula Sinha.The finals culminated in a breathtaking display of dance and music in a colourful closing ceremony. The theme of the ceremony was based on Five elements- Five countries. The ceremony endeavoured to portray the essence of the collective power of the Five elements (Fire, Water, Air, earth & Space), symbolizing the collective strength of the BRICS nations.
