Vijay Goel, Minister of State, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports on Wednesday inaugurated the 3rd season of STAIRS School Football League (SSFL) at Thyagaraj Sports Complex in New Delhi.
The STAIRS School Football League is counted among the world’s biggest football scouting and training programmes at school level.
Former dashing opener of Sri Lankan Cricket team Sanath Jayasuriya was also present on the occasion. Also present was Rajiv Yadav, Secretary Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The third season of SSFL – 3 will see participation of more than 30,000 school level footballers from 2,000 schools of Delhi and Gujarat participating in the tournament.
The mega sports event will witness 4,000 matches (500 in Delhi and 3500 in Gujarat) being played. This will make it the biggest and longest running football league at the school level.
256 teams, 128 each of Under-14 boys and Under-17 boys will be participating in the tournament. 32 girls teams, Under 14 and Under 17 will also participate.
The event is exclusively meant for children under 14 years and 17 years of age groups and exactly follows the FIFA World Cup format.
