Union Minister Vijay Goel along with State Ministers and Secretaries of Youth Affairs and Sports chaired a one of its kind conference in Delhi Vigyan Bhawan to discuss and strategize the future of sports in India.
Goel along with the Government of India, Hon’ble Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Mr.Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, and Hon’ble Minister of State for Skill Development (Independent Charge), Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy set the tone for the conference with powerful addresses.
Sports minister laid stress on issues like need for broad basing of Sports and achieving excellence in Sports through development of basic Sports facilities at grassroots levels, putting in place a robust system for identification of Sporting talent, and encouraging mass participation through annual Sports competitions
He also talked about a new portal entitled National Sports Talent Search Portal which is to be launched by ministry. The portal will allow aspiring players from across the country to stake a claim to help and support to further their sporting dreams by feeding essential data about them in the portal.
Issues like making Sports Federations more accountable for results through rigorous application of the Sports Code and transferring the subject ‘Sports’ from the State List to the Concurrent List of the were also discussed.He also stressed the need for expanding the web of Sports science support to athletes by setting up a Sports science centre in at least one University in each State/UT. Shri Vijay Goel sought support of the States in these endeavours.Representatives from States and UTs also raised their issues.
In a bid to develop Sports and achieve excellence, the decision was unanimously approved by all the ministers.
In an exclusive talk with India Samvad, Vijay Goel revealed the future game plan for the sports. Goel said, “You will witness drastic changes in the country’s sports system soon. Now, India won’t lack behind in any of the sports events.
While interacting with the news portal India Samvad, Goel said, he held a four-hour-long brainstorming session entitled ‘Chintan Baithak’ with eminent sports personalities such as shooter Gagan Narang, former hockey players Viren Rasquinha and Jagbir Singh and former Director General of SAI.
The meeting was called keeping in mind preparations for forthcoming 2020, even 2024 and 2028 Olympics Games in advance. So, that this time Indians perform well and clinch medals in every upcoming sports events.
In the meeting, Goel said that they have asked Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to double the sports budget to provide proper equipment, diet and also coaches to the players.
